Seahawks blow 4th Quarter Lead

Early in the Fourth Quarter, Tarvaris Jackson hooked up with Golden Tate on a 15 yard score to give Seattle a 17-7 lead.  The Redskins put 16 points on the board the rest of quarter to finish off the comeback and win 23-17.  Seattle’s defense which has led the team in most of their victories this year was the main reason for the loss on Sunday.  They gave up over 400 yards on offense, including over 300 yards passing for the on again, off again starting QB Rex Grossman.  Rexy wasn’t without his mistakes, throwing 2 interceptions, but it would be more alarming if he didn’t throw at least one to the other team as he now has 14 on the year.  I mentioned last week that it would be a mystery who would get the bulk of the carries for the Skins, but it was very clear who is the feature back after this game.  Roy Helu carried the ball 23 times for 108 yards and added another 57 through the air.  Torain didn’t have a carry and the only other RB to touch the ball was Evan Royster who was just signed from the practice squad.  Rex Grossman had one of this most effective games of the year, spreading it all around the field, completing passes to 8 different receivers.  I was actually surprised the offense played so well.  If Seattle were to lose this game, I though it would be the offenses fault for the most part.

The offense was exactly spectacular though.  In fact, Jackson completed less than half of his passes.  He finished with 144 yards through the air, but did have 2 touchdowns to go with one interception.  Marshawn Lynch continues to be the workhorse for this offense, getting back to the century mark in this game with 111 on the ground and even completed a 20 yard TD catch. A bit of concern came when Sidney Rice left the game with an apparent head injury.  If it is a concussion, don’t expect to see him in the game next week.  Doug Baldwin took over as the leading receiver with 5 catches for 60 yards.

This loss was a little bitter since the Seahawks seemed to have the game mostly in control.  They only gave up 7 points in the first 3 quarters before the defense collapsed in the last 10 minutes.  The loss brings them to 4-7 on the year, and playoffs are probably officially out of reach.  They have a short week to prepare for Thursday nights game vs. Philadelphia.  They will be facing another team who has disappointed this year and are also 4-7.  No word yet on whether Vick will suit up or not.  If he misses a third straight game, Vince Young will start once again, who struggled yesterday against a bad New England pass defense.  They are one of the best rushing teams in the country with or without Vick, and if they don’t fall behind early like last game, expect a heavy dose of LeSean McCoy.  It will be interesting game considering Andy Reid is on the hot seat and there have been questions about how hard his team has been playing for him.  Game is at 8:20 Thursday night.
