One of the many divisional battles during opening weekend of the NFL season, is an NFC West duel with Seattle traveling to Arizona to face the Cardinals. Odds for this game started very even, but with the struggles of the Cardinals, the Seahawks come in as -3 on the NFL odds, as favorites on the road. Even though recent news leading up to this game isn’t good, Seattle still has an excellent chance of getting a road win to start the season.
There is but one single concern for the Seahawks coming into this game, and that’s the health of Marshawn Lynch. Lycnh has missed the last two preseason games with back spasms, and he has yet to practice this week. Nothing has been set in stone yet obviously, but Lynch is officially listed as questionable. It seems at best he will be getting a slightly lighter workload, but they could hold him out all together.
The Cardinals are dealing with a quarterback controversy that didn’t seem all the way resolved throughout the preseason. Seattle on the other hand will be starting a rookie quarterback who had to win a battle of his own. Russell Wilson doesn’t have an extremely difficult task ahead of him, but his first NFL regular season start could be nerve racking.
If Lynch plays or not, the Hawks have a good shot at getting a win. With the exception of Larry Fitzgerald, the Cardinals have a whole lot of nothing on offense. While the Seahawks are not an offensive juggernaut, they have more weapons that Arizona.
The Cardinals will however, have a much better shot at winning if Lynch doesn’t play. Keep an eye out for his status, because I doubt we know the final decision until a few hours before kickoff.
