An NFC West battle is set to take place Week 1, when the Seahawks travel down to the desert to face the Arizona Cardinals. NFL odds have been shifting in favor of the Seahawks in recent weeks, as Seattle is favored by -2 ½ on the road. It’s Russell Wilson’s first NFL start, so will he come away with a winning record, or will the Cards snag a Week 1 upset?
I wouldn’t quite consider a Cardinals win an upset, but it would be surprising. Seattle comes into this game with a much better team on paper, but anything can happen in young Mr. Wilson’s first real start as a pro.
With the exception of Wilson taking care of the ball, the biggest concern for Seahawks fans should be the health of Marshawn Lynch. Lynch hasn’t practiced this week because of back spasm that kept him out of the Hawks’ last two preseason games. If Lynch can’t play, that is a serious problem for Seattle. Throwing Wilson out in the fire without his steady workhorse tail back standing behind him could prove disastrous. Seattle should win this game on all fronts, but if there is no Lynch, the chances of a win drop significantly.
However, if Wilson pulls out 250 yards and 3 touchdowns out of nowhere, the need for 20 plus carries from Lynch will not be needed. However, as much as I want to see Wilson play excellent, it’s wishful thinking if he doesn’t have Lynch. As of Wednesday, Lynch was supposed to practice at a limited basis, but he did not take the field. As of press time, no word has come out of Thursday’s practice. Keep an eye out.
