This weeks matchup against the Arizona Cardinals was nothing like the last. That’s due in large part because the Seahawks managed a win the last time they saw the Cardinals, this week they fall to 12-3. At least the offense had a pulse during the last match up; week 16 it totally flat lined. The defense showed up for the first 3 quarters, snagging 4 interceptions, but couldn’t stop Carson Palmer in the 4th as they coughed up 11 points.

Despite the loss, we Seattle fans are classy people so we have to give credit where credit is due. The Cardinals did a good job defensively. They pressured Russell Wilson into hasty decisions intercepting him once and sacking him four times. Arizona’s defense forced Seattle 3-and-out 7 times during the course of the game and controlled time of possession, only allowing just over 22 minutes. A large portion of the credit is owed to Arizona’s kicker Jay Feely who went 3-3, keeping his team in the game until the 4th when Palmer threw his only touchdown.

With a playoff ticket already punched for Seattle this game was more about their perfect home record than anything else. Let’s face it; there are no trophies for a perfect home record at seasons end. So what, the Seahawks lost at home, so has every other team in the NFL this season. The Cardinals didn’t expect to win this game, they were more concerned about avenging a 58-0 loss to the Seahawks from last year. “Whether we make the playoffs or not, we beat one of the best,” Arizona coach Bruce Arians said. They’re not even sure they will make it to the playoffs so this win is the highlight of their season thus far. If Herman Edwards hasn’t taught us anything, he taught us that, “You play to win the game!” I’m sure Pete Carroll wasn’t as emphatic Coach Edwards but I’m sure he put some emphasis on getting this win and finishing the season strong.

The 7-8 St. Louis Rams come to visit in the season finale. This is a game Seattle essentially needs to win to carry some momentum into the playoffs. The last time these two teams met Seattle came out the victors 14-9.
